Comings and Goings: Boingo Wireless Appoints New President

Boingo Wireless, Inc., the small-cell Wi-Fi provider found in airports, shopping malls and coffee shops across the United States, has a new president: Nick Hulse, former Chief Revenue Officer for The Rubicon Project.

Boingo Wireless CEO Dave Hagan said in a prepared statement that Boingo is looking forward to Hulse's contributions, especially in regards to his experience in sales, marketing and operations. Hulse will oversee daily responsibilities for Boingo's sales, marketing, product and business teams.

“Since we’ve expanded our monetization platform considerably over the last year, we believe it’s time to bring in a dedicated executive who can drive growth and manage the execution against those opportunities,” Hagan stated. “Nick brings deep experience in industry sectors where we have significant growth potential."

And much of that growth potential could lie with providing infrastructure to meet the insatiable demand for data. In the same statement, Hulse said Boingo has a diversified platform, capable of providing customers with both infrastructure and monetization services for that demand.

And Boingo's previous work shows that shift: the company has invested a great deal in both providing and monetizing Wi-Fi, going so far as to partner with Google to provide free Wi-Fi service on New York subways in 2012, according to AdWeek. Boingo also recently penned an expansive ad deal with Starbucks, says AdWeek, ranging from dedicated Starbucks banners to YouTube TrueView videos on complimentary Wi-Fi connections.

Such a continued trajectory, with aim towards mobile, could be on the short list of possible growth avenues for Boingo. Additional possibilities include continued support and growth at convention centers and stadiums.

Hulse will start with an annual base salary of $325,000, The Motley Fool reports, with an annual incentive bonus 75 percent of annual base salary, 250,000 stock options and 50,000 restricted stock units.
