Verizon Wireless Expands 4G LTE Coverage in Select Connecticut Counties

Verizon Wireless continues to expand coverage of its 4G long term evolution (LTE) network, this time within a number of Fairfield and New Haven County communities in Connecticut. The wireless operator first introduced 4G LTE to Fairfield and New Haven Counties back in May 2011 and has been expanding that initial coverage since, into Connecticut communities such as Bethany, Bridgeport, Cheshire, Fairfield, Meriden, Naugatuck, Oakville, Trumbull, Waterbury and Woodbury.

Verizon also recently began expansion of 4G LTE coverage in New London County, Connecticut, as well as Manchester, Nashua and several nearby New Hampshire communities in New England.

“4G LTE is changing the way customers interact with the world via next generation apps, devices and solutions,” commented Dave MacBeth, executive director of Network for Verizon Wireless. “By investing in wireless broadband, we’re investing in local communities and economies where our customers live, work and play.”

According to Verizon, its 4G LTE data network better enables customers using compatible devices to surf the Web, download files and consume media with speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Meanwhile, as of this month, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is available to over 287 million people in 491 markets across the U.S., covering more than 95 percent of the provider's own 3G coverage.

Of course, the advantages of LTE go beyond faster mobile device speed, as LTE is used in a number of enterprise solutions, including telematics devices for connected cars and remote medical diagnostics solutions. Verizon itself offers an alternative use for its advanced data network with the Verizon 4G LTE Router, which is capable of supporting both wired and Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneously and offers on-the-go connectivity for a wide range of devices.

Furthermore, Verizon's HomeFusion Broadband offering is a residential Internet solution that leverages the carrier's LTE network to bring high-speed Internet to areas with limited broadband options.
