TriQuint's New Small Cell Amplifier Reduces Board Profile by 50 Percent

In the information and communication technology sector space is a valuable commodity. Whether it is the latest mobile device or hardware used by telecoms to run their networks, a small profile gives manufacturers more options. The latest reduction in size comes from TriQuint Semiconductor, a RF solutions supplier and technology innovator, with its first integrated power amplifier solution for small cell and active antenna base stations. The TGA2450-SM is a small cell power amplifier serving all key mobile infrastructure frequency bands with a profile that cuts board space by half while delivering high efficiency.

Small cell radio systems can be deployed for indoor and outdoor installations where a small profile is needed for many different type of networks including 3G/4G and LTE. As demand from smartphone users increases and location-based services become the norm, small cell installations will provide solutions for businesses across many different industries. The small profile of this unit also gives network infrastructure OEMs more options for creating more innovative products while saving money on their bills of materials when it is being manufactured.

"The market trend is towards more densely-packed, smaller radio links—small cells. TriQuint’s highly-integrated solution offers the flexibility to support our customers’ emerging designs. Our product family uses only half the space of traditional discrete parts," said Infrastructure and Defense Products Vice President and General Manager James L. Klein.

The TGA2450-SM can be used in applications for 3G / 4G wireless infrastructure, BTS transceivers/repeaters, heterogeneous networks, and multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO). The product line includes gain block amplifiers, linear amplifiers, power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers (LNAs), digital step attenuators (DSAs), variable gain amplifiers (VGAs), frequency converters, switches and duplexers, as well as a wide selection of RF and IF SAW and BAW filters.

The integrated surface mount 3-stage Power Amplifier Module can be applied for 3G and 4G small cell base station applications with 1 W RMS at the antenna with minimal external components. It also supports multi-mode and multicarrier signals which include an InGaP/GaAs HBT device technology to provide a combination of high efficiency and DPD friendliness.

TriQuint Semiconductor has been providing RF solutions and foundry services for global communications, defense and aerospace companies since 1985.
