Samsung Smart TV, Blu-Ray Players Get a Jolt from VEVO's New Music Video App

VEVO is quite possibly one of the first names that comes to mind regarding where to get music videos online, and VEVO is eager to cement that perception by making its blend of images and music more readily available thanks to a new app. Said app has recently launched, and for those out there with Samsung Blu-ray players or Smart TV devices, all the songs and accompanying images can now be had right on a television.

VEVO has been rapidly expanding its purview over the last several years, stepping out from just PCs and going into mobile devices and tablets, then pursuing slightly less orthodox targets like set-top boxes, particularly the Apple TV and Roku systems, as well as the Xbox line. But now, it's stepping up just a bit into territory that's only slightly less than familiar with the previous entries and offering it up direct to televisions and connected Blu-ray players. The Samsung Smart TV products in question will be those made from 2012 on, at last report, and will work in several different regions, including large parts of North America and Europe, as well as New Zealand, Brazil and Australia.

The Samsung version, however, is more built for TV viewers, with the new VEVO TV interface that runs videos in a linear feed for easier access. But viewers will also be able to browse a range of musical options, as well as playlists assembled from currently available music. VEVO has been seen making some moves away from YouTube—though YouTube has even put some investment in VEVO in the recent past—in what's been described as a bid to get more control over ad sales and the accompanying revenue, though VEVO videos can still be found on YouTube. Rihanna's “Pour It Up,” for example, made it to VEVO on YouTube just a week ago and has cleared 40 million views. Reports suggest that YouTube is still VEVO's single biggest distribution platform, though there are moves into other devices and platforms both currently being executed and slated for the near-term future.

The end result here is that music, in all its forms, is steadily becoming more available than ever. Whether through streaming music services like Rdio, Pandora or Spotify, or in video form through YouTube or VEVO or others, hearing a favorite song or just finding a new one has never been quite so simple as it is now. Future developments should bring still more music into the fold, and in more places, making it even more convenient—and lucrative for those who own said music—to offer it up. The field of entertainment has always been one in constant flux, and those who are ready to take advantage of the changes in technology are likely to have the best success in the wider field.
