LG Chromebase is the First All-in-One Desktop to Feature Chrome OS

With the trouble surrounding HP’s Chromebook 11 finally solved by way of a charger replacement, it seems another computer sporting Google’s lightweight Chrome OS has hit the scene — although this one’s a bit different than others in the Chrome family. Manufactured by LG, the Chromebase is the first Chrome-based all-in-one desktop computer that’s set to be officially unveiled at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month.

Still, it seems LG is anxious to show off its latest device as the company has released the Chromebase’s specs, along with some press images, online.

Being a Chrome computer, the Chromebase offers relatively meek hardware, especially compared to Windows and Mac OS computers. In particular, the computer features a fourth generation Intel Celeron CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD. That said, the Chromebase is no slouch in the display department as it boasts a 21.5-inch 1080p IPS display, meaning it offers accurate color reproduction, good contrast and great viewing angles.

Like most all-in-one computers, the LG Chromebase also features a built-in webcam and microphone to facilitate video calling. While this particular webcam offers a mere 1.3 megapixels for still image shooting, it does support 720p video calling.

Altogether, these specs fall in line with other products in the Chrome line, providing just what consumers need out of device at a low price. However, we’ll probably have to wait until CES to find out how much the Chromebase will sell for.

“LG’s Chromebase is an exciting new form factor that expands the options available to customers who want a fast, simple and secure computing experience for the home, school or office,” said Caesar Sengupta, vice president of product management at Google, in a statement. “LG Electronics makes great devices that customers love, and we’re glad to welcome them to the Chrome family.”
