LifeProof Launches First National Smartphone Case Televised Ad Campaign

LifeProof cases have been a household name since their humble beginnings in 2010. Any smartphone user who is even remotely aware of device protection products has heard of the brand. The San Diego-based manufacturer of Apple and Android device protective cases promises extreme protection from all of life’s little smartphone involved accidents. From drop, to shock, to water, to babies - LifeProof is determined to be the best of the best, and the price reflects it.

The current iPhone 5S LifeProof case retails for $89.99, and comes with extremely clear instructions on how to install the case onto your shiny new $700 retail value smartphone. Should your device become damaged with your new case installed, you’re out of luck unless you purchase their “Total Water Protection Program” for an additional $50. In which case, they’ll cover a one-time water damage incident and replace your device and case.

This week, the company has announced a new advertising push, and will become the first case manufacturer to debut a commercial campaign on national television. Though this is not surprising, as LifeProof was also the first case company to make a sleek waterproof design, as well as a case that would pass military grade shock protection standards.

Although they are first to bat for televised advertising, they interestingly aren’t putting any money into new material it seems. They have two commercials, the first is entitled “Hyphens” depicts numerous happy users describing the situation under which they thought their phone was headed for sure failure and total doom, and then adding the word “proof” at the end. The second called “BabyProof” shows a baby taking his mothers phone and getting into all sorts of trouble before finally throwing it in the toilet.

The thing is, these are pre-existing videos on their YouTube channel from almost a year ago. So it seems they felt new material would be an unnecessary expense. Perhaps they are correct, lest we forget that one of the other major names in case making Otterbox, acquired LifeProof last year. Never the less, the commercials will be airing on cable television throughout March and early April.
