Juniper Systems Combines IDBLUE RFID Reader to its Rugged Handhelds

The Internet of Things (IoT) will connect billions of devices to the Internet so consumers, businesses, and governments can access and control the products and infrastructure we use every day. This connection requires technologies such as Bluetooth, M2M, RFID, Wi-Fi, GPS, satellites and emerging solutions that have yet not been developed. Radio frequency identification or RFID is currently used by many different industries and enjoys a high adoption rate, but the IoT will increase this adoption to new levels.

In light of the huge market potential many organizations are introducing new RFID solutions, and Juniper Systems is showcasing its RFID related products at the upcoming annual RFID Journal LIVE conference in Orlando, Fl. from April 8 – 10.

The platform Juniper is showcasing is designed to provide organizations with the technology to read RFID tags with equipment that is rugged, technologically advanced and efficient for collecting data. Because RFID tags are used to track, maintain and manage assets that are deployed in some of the most environmentally harsh regions in the world, they have to withstand a lot of punishment. This includes cargo ships, energy industry, manufacturing, trucking, railways and more.

Juniper has two rugged handhelds that are specifically designed to withstand these rough environments; they are the Archer 2 and Mesa Rugged Notepad.

The Mesa notepad is configured as a tablet PC and the rugged handheld computer designed specifically to collect massive amounts of data with a large screen real estate and a battery life that lasts up to 16 hours. The company is so confident of the rugged quality of the product, it says it can be used as a wheel choke if a truck starts to roll.

Some of its strengths include:

  • Surviving a 4 foot drop onto concrete
  • Full immersion in water
  • Withstanding temperatures up to 122°F
  • Earning an IP6 seven rating
  • Tested to MIL-STD-810G for water, humidity, sand and dust, vibration, altitude, shock, and temperature

Juniper's RFID-based management solution includes the IDBLUE RFID reader, a pen-shaped reader that doubles as a capacitive stylus available in HF (high frequency) and UHF (ultra-high frequency).

"Juniper Systems’ rugged handhelds offer unyielding data protection, while the IDBLUE reader provides an efficient means of collecting data through RFIDNot only that, but this solution is flexible and affordable for those who wish to maximize their RFID investment, should they choose to upgrade Juniper handhelds in the future," said Remington Rainey, Industrial Market Manager at Juniper Systems.
