Free Android Phone Makes GIV Mobile Even More Tempting

My 10 year relationship with a wireless carrier I’ve stuck with all these years is coming to an end as my final contract phases out in just a few short weeks. I’ve had 2 lines running on a contract plan all of these years, and while their unlimited plans and lower overall cost has kept me loyal, there’s something that has caught my eye – that’s not only a better cost – but also offers a feel good factor too.

A year ago, I wrote about a company that was offering no-contract phone services – with a twist. The company, GIV Mobile, offers prepaid options for wireless services and donates 8 percent of a customer’s monthly plan fee to charity.

They are a virtual provider of T-Mobile’s network and customers have the option to pay $40 for 250MB of high speed data and unlimited talk, text, data, mms and even global texting. Or for $50 per month to all the same unlimited features with 2GB of high speed data.

One year later, the company is taking the incentives a step further and is now offering a promotion where customers who sign up for either of their rate plans for 2 months, will also get a free android phone.

According to the advertising on their site, the free phone is an Alcatel OT-991 but they indicate the phone model may vary and is being offered only for a limited time and while supplies last.

Deciding to make the move to a no contract provider versus one that you lock into a contract with – but get a free phone when you do – has been a deal breaker for many like me in the past. Since smartphones these days, without a carrier contract, go for a pretty hefty penny.

This latest move from GIV mobile means you get a plan that’s affordable, not on contract and a free Android phone, while being able to give back to up to 3 charities like the  American Cancer Society, Kids In Need Foundation, PetSmart Charities, and more.

Aside from the group of consumers like myself looking to move away from contract plans, this latest offering could also appeal to an older, less experience generation of mobile users (thinking my parents and older) who don’t see the benefit in feature phones and are still walking around with outdated ‘dumb phones’ that can only make and receive phone calls.  This presents a perfect opportunity to make the plunge to modern technology, without having to break the bank.

“GIV Mobile’s goal is to create a community of users that care about helping others as well as providing high-quality wireless service,” says Omar Aqel, co-founder of GIV Mobile. “By offering a free Android smartphone, we’ve eliminated the barrier of getting a new phone, as well as helping consumers save money with no-contract service; all while supporting charities they’re passionate about.”
