Mobility TechZone Week in Review: Mobile Devices are a Way of Life

It appears that the whole world has become entranced by mobile devices of all different kinds, from tablets and smartphones to wearable devices and everything in between. More likely than not, there is likely a smartphone lying either on your desk or in your pocket at this very moment – and you may even be using it to read this very article. The popularity of mobile devices is growing every day as those within the industry keep seeking to deliver better products supported by stronger network infrastructures, and here are some of the latest developments in the industry from the past week alone.

For starters, a new report from GSMA intelligence shows that there are now currently more active mobile connections than there are people on the planet earth. While there have been more mobile devices in existence than people for some time now, the fact that there are now more connections than people is a clear indicator that more people are using mobile Web than ever before. Of course, this doesn't mean that everyone has a smartphone, nor does it mean that there are several people walking around with two or three smartphones, as the rise of Internet of Things (IoT) applications has breathed life into networks of devices and sensors that work in conjunction to perform tasks. As this technology grows, the current 7.2 billion connections on the planet can be expected to skyrocket.

As also can be expected, more devices are being developed to entice consumers, and a rendering of the upcoming Google Nexus 6 appears quite promising. The Google Nexus 6 appears to be in the same vein as the iPhone 6 Plus in that it is closer to being a “phablet” than a smartphone, which is somewhat of a hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet. Though the iPhone 6 has been rumored to bend in user's pants due to its size, the Google Nexus 6 is not afraid to follow in the same path, and is comparable in size to the Galaxy Note 3.

To help support all of these devices, XCOMGLOBAL has started offering affordable Wi-Fi hotspots that are available all over the world. Wi-Fi is generally considered the best way to access data through a mobile device due to the exorbitant costs of mobile data, especially while traveling internationally. As XCOMGLOBAL stated in an exclusive interview with TMC CEO Rich Tehrani, “We're expanding LTE and throughout Europe, while we still rent the 3G product, we're also starting to launch countries with 4G ... So we're looking first at the UK and then we're going to expand to some of the major countries throughout Europe.”

Finally, mobile devices have become so ubiquitous that families with children and teenagers are now sporting devices for everyone in the family. To help ensure that parents can monitor their children’s Web activity, WebSafety has released a new Android app that allows parents to view everything from app installations and social media activity to web browsing and even real-time locations.
