Comings and Goings: Truphone Appoints New CEO

January tends to be a busy month for the entire technology world, thanks in large part to major trade shows. Adding to this flurry of news, Truphone has announced the appointment of Ralph Steffens as chief executive officer (CEO). Meanwhile, former CEO, Steve Robertson, is moving on to become executive chairman and CEO of strategic partnerships for the company.

This past November, Truphone was awarded a US patent for call recording, namely its Truphone Mobile Recording software. US Patent 9131055 enables conversations to be split into two distinct parts as a way to eliminate lag in a call recording.

Steffens joins Truphone from his last assignment with Indian telecommunications provider Reliance Jio Infocom where he served as president and chief operating officer. In joining Truphone, he has made the move from Mumbai, India, to London, United Kingdom.

“It is a privilege to be appointed as CEO of Truphone, a company with an industry-changing service offering based on its unique global mobile footprint,” said Steffens. “Under Steve's leadership, Truphone has developed and expanded its offering, extending both its geographical and market reach. I am looking forward to the challenge of continuing the company's strategy and helping it meet its huge growth potential.”

As Truphone’s latest CEO, Steffens will work closely with Robertson and the rest of the company’s management team to lead its strategic direction, while further growing its international reach and improving the service offering to customers. Steffens is well-equipped to handle the task as he has held senior positions at some of the world’s top telecommunications companies, including NBN Co Limited, BT, Colt Telecom, and of course Reliance Jio Infocom.

“We are delighted to welcome on board Ralph, whose experience of the telecoms industry, which spans nearly two decades, can help us take Truphone to the next level, cementing our position as the first truly global mobile network,” said Robertson. “His knowledge and experience of working in many countries across Europe and Asia-Pacific will prove invaluable to the company.”
