Rivetz and Cognida Team Up To Tackle Growing Mobile Device Security Threats

The mobile attack surface continues to expand, driving enterprise IT and security teams to explored increasingly sophisticated ways to share private data and confidential information when it comes to billions of devices being used as the primary means of communications now and in the future.

Cybersecurity Ventures anticipates that cybersecurity damages will total more than $6 trillion globally, up from $3 trillion in 2015, a number that is scaling with the explosive growth in devices, applications and cloud, connected by public and private networks.

Today, Windmill Enterprises announced they are working with Rivetz, a fast-moving  technology and services company on a mission to deliver safer and easier-to-use software enabling businesses to protect their digital assets using hardware-based trusted execution technology.

In the age of microservices, and continual “hypercomputing,” devices plays a critical role in automating security and enabling the controls that enterprises need to protect the integrity of data and benefit from the advantages of blockchain approaches, for example.

Windmill last week previewed its Cognida Network and Platform (a management solution for multi-blockchain environments including the interactions between public and private networks, and public and private keys) which is scheduled to go live next month. Rivetz will offer its customers access to blockchain agnostic security tools.

Cognida will leverage the Rivetz technology to provide the Cognida enterprise customer additional options for securing their private keys utilizing Rivetz’s access to the Trusted Execution Environment (“TEE”) private “vault” inside the hardware in millions of mobile devices.

Rivetz supports advanced security capabilities that provide owners with account-enhanced protection, assuring integrity of messaging and applications. Their technology provides verifiable security controls for blockchain transactions. The Rivetz solution leverages technology that is already built in to hundreds of millions of mobile devices to assure the keys and transactions cannot be altered or stolen by malware infecting the operating system.

"Enterprises face the daunting challenge authenticating thousands of users in a plethora of environments and granting them the appropriate access to information," said Steven Sprague, CEO of Rivetz. “By joining forces with Windmill, we offer enterprises an easy-to-use solution that leverages the powerful cybersecurity capabilities of both TEE and the blockchain.”

Rivetz is developing technology to push the edge of security to the screen of the device. Rather than a password being the last line of defense, individual devices can be deputized to broker access to valued online assets. Their Global Attestation and Identity Network is designed  to record and verify the health and integrity of the device using an RvT and blockchain technology, according to the company’s white paper.

This service builds on the last three years of work by Rivetz in creating the platform and tools to simplify a developer’s access to the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), a dedicated and impenetrable hardware platform that exists in every device.

The mobile devices of today are essential to decentralized data processing, but that processing can be easily corrupted. By focusing on the device identity, continuously measuring the state of the device, and enabling a new token based business model, Rivetz is constructing a new decentralized approach to cybersecurity and transaction assurance.

The Rivetz solution takes advantage of the TEE, which provides Rivetz with an isolated execution environment within the main processor to execute code that cannot be observed or altered by the operating system. This vault on the processor enables Rivetz to store and process sensitive data, and assure that policy and controls are executed as expected.

Blockchain has created a new foundation for value transfer on the internet. Trusted computing has created the foundation for protected execution on a device. Rivetz is building the network to put it all to work, empowering a new market and new revenue for a decentralized network of secure devices and services.

The Cognida Network, expected to go live July 20th, is a secure service network layer that operates on top of the Internet. It establishes trusted service and data relationships between enterprises and service providers, enabling enterprise customers to administer and enforce their security policy requirements at each service interface on the network. This news follows the Company’s earlier reveal of the Cognida Network at the World Blockchain Forum.

“By combining the security and data integrity tools available with Rivetz and the Cognida Network, the two companies offer enterprise customers a flexible suite of tools to more easily secure identities and administer data permissions,” said Michael Hathaway, Co-Founder & CEO of Windmill Enterprise.

The Cognida Network and its open source platform enabling enterprises to enforce their security and access permissions policies on connected devices, systems and shared information using blockchain agnostic technology. Cognida’s technology was developed by Windmill Enterprises and is being contributed to the Cognida Foundation, a US-based, non-profit organization that will be governed by its members.
