3 Scandinavia's Network Enhanced with Cisco ASR 9000 Series Routers to provide 4G and LTE Services

Global networking technology giant Cisco has announced that 3 Scandinavia, mobile operator, has enhanced its Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) with its ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. This will enable 3 Scandinavia's network to provide its customers with 4G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in addition to providing faster mobile Internet and video services.

In a release, Jörgen Askeroth, chief technical officer of 3 Scandinavia, said that, “We strive to offer innovative services that appeal to all of our customers. 4G and LTE are services our customers rely on greatly to share and view mobile video and data. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series Routers and Cisco Move framework help enable us to provide customers a consistent mobile Internet experience.”

3 Scandinavia has been focusing on enhancing and in furthering the development of its latest services offerings which include mobile Internet, mobile video chat and mobile video downloads for both individual and enterprise customers. By deploying Cisco's ASR 9000 Series, 3 Scandinavia will now be able to ensure flexible and expanded delivery of mobile backhaul.

As the market for mobile Internet devices expands, service providers are hard pressed to address the growing demand for unique IP addresses across the globe. Service providers deploying Cisco's ASR 9000 Series can seamlessly migrate to IPv6 which is not limited by address exhaustion and enables enhanced security and improved service.

Cisco has forecasted that by 2015, there will be 15 billion network-connected devices and that the global Internet traffic will touch 966 exabytes per year. Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast for 2010 to 2015 indicates that video will constitute two-thirds of global mobile data traffic by 2015.

Surya Panditi, senior vice president and general manager, core technology group at Cisco said that, “As 3 Scandinavia works to manage and take advantage of the mobile video tidal wave; it is increasingly looking for monetization and optimization techniques that will improve its bottom line and enhance the customer experience. We are excited to collaborate with 3 Scandinavia and help enable it to deliver higher quality at lower cost and differentiate the video experience through our ASR 9000 Series and MOVE solution.”
