Metaswitch Conducts VoLTE Interoperability Test with Perimeta Session Border Controller

Metaswitch Networks, a provider of carrier infrastructure and software solutions, announced that it participated in the MultiService Forum (MSF) Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Interoperability Test Event 2011 with the Perimeta Session Border Controller (SBC).

Telecom major Vodafone at its Duesseldorf Test and Innovation Centre and China Mobile at its Research Institute Laboratory in Beijing hosted the test. MSF hosted the interoperability test, while mobile industry association GSMA backed it.

Metaswitch Networks has validated interworking interfaces and functional components defined within the 3GPP IP multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standards for delivering voice services over LTE infrastructures.

"The MSF VoLTE Interoperability event reflects the MSF's commitment to carrier-driven interoperability events that validate key emerging standards and technologies, including key network interfaces that ensure multi- vendor deployment strategies for LTE/EPC/IMS technology,” said Kyu-Ouk Lee, president of MSF, in a statement.

The Perimeta SBC worked as a P-CSCF in both local and roaming scenarios, involving vendors' PCRF, I-CSCF, S-CSCF, diameter routing agent and User Equipment (UE) implementations.

Perimeta enabled calls between the Duesseldorf and Beijing testing sites during the IOT event, exposing Gm, Mw, Izi and Ici interfaces. The Perimeta SBC operated simultaneously as a P-CSCF and combined IBCF/TrGW for international roaming calls, meeting a critical interop objective.

The Perimeta platform features a distributed implementation that enables the independent scaling of signaling and media capacity. This approach can significantly reduce the costs associated with handling rising multimedia payloads that include HD voice and video.

Recently, Panasonic System Networks Company of America, a provider of business phone systems, announced certification for interoperability of the KX-UT series of SIP telephones with Metaswitch Networks' platform. This recognition signals admission into Metaswitch Networks' Mosaic Partner Program.
