LightSquared, Red Pocket Mobile Partner to Deliver No Contract Wireless Data Services across the U.S

LightSquared, which has created the first-ever wholesale-only nationwide 4G-LTE network integrated with satellite coverage, announced it has signed a wholesale agreement with Red Pocket Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) serving customers across the U.S.

The agreement enables Red Pocket Mobile to offer their subscribers high-speed wireless data access using LightSquared's 4G-LTE network.

“With its agreement with LightSquared, Red Pocket Mobile is poised to lead the growth of MVNOs in this country,” said Sanjiv Ahuja, chairman and chief executive officer of LightSquared, in a statement. “Delivering advanced wireless data services will enable Red Pocket to reach new customers and elevate their company's competitive position in the wireless marketplace.”

Red Pocket Mobile’s service is marked by no contract unlimited and pay-as-you-go plans. One of the country's leading MVNOs, the company offers its service through thousands of retailers throughout the United States and directly to consumers at GoRedPocket.com.

The partnership will benefit Red Pocket Mobile to leverage LightSquared's 4G-LTE network to make next-generation mobile broadband services available to millions of consumers nationwide.

“Red Pocket Mobile is committed to providing our customers with access to the most advanced high-speed data services,” said Joshua Gordon, president of Red Pocket Mobile, in a statement. “LightSquared's cutting-edge network will enable us to add new wireless broadband services to our industry-leading suite of talk, text and mobile Web plans.”

LightSquared is in the process of deploying an open 4G wireless broadband network to be used by existing and new service providers to sell their own devices, applications and services – at a competitive cost and without retail competition from LightSquared.

The company is planning to invest more than $14 billion of private investment over the next eight years for the deployment and operation of LightSquared's network.

In a recent development, LightSquared partnered with PCTEL, a global provider of innovative antenna solutions, to resolve concerns over high precision GPS interference. PCTEL’s antenna solution allows existing high precision users to retrofit their GPS devices to make them compatible with LightSquared's network.
