Samsung Galaxy Nexus Hits Stores on Christmas Eve

Verizon Wireless, Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) and Google teamed up to bring to the market Google's third Nexus smartphone that includes 4G LTE connectivity for the first time.

In a press release, Verizon, Samsung and Google announced that Galaxy Nexus is currently available at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online. With a new two-year customer agreement, the smartphone has been priced at $299.99.

Galaxy Nexus offers customers a redesigned user experience with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Near Field Communications (NFC) sharing with Android Beam and a full Web-browsing experience. 

Thanks to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, the Galaxy Nexus users are allowed to browse the Web, stream music and more at blazing speeds.

Galaxy Nexus customers can enjoy access to the 4G LTE network in 190 markets covering over 200 million people across the United States, and fly through the Web with fast download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps within the 4G LTE Mobile Broadband coverage area, Verizon claimed in the release.

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS gives an entirely new look and feel to Android. With redesigned lock screen, home screen, phone app and others have made Android simple, beautiful and useful, claimed its maker. 

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich allows the users to create a Google+ account right from the phone and check status updates, manage circles, quickly share updates and photos, video chat with up to ten friends with Mobile Hangouts, and chat with groups of friends with Google+ Messenger.

The Face Unlock feature enables facial recognition to unlock Galaxy Nexus, while the Android Beam feature lets the users to quickly share Web pages, apps, contacts and YouTube videos with friends by simply tapping two compatible phones together

The music enthusiasts will find the device exciting as with Google Music feature allows uploading of up to 20,000 songs to the cloud, discover and buy new music from Android Market, and stream it instantly on Galaxy Nexus and from the Web for free.

In the release, Samsung said that customers that purchase a Galaxy Nexus by Samsung will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 monthly access and a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.

Earlier, Verizon Wireless announced to offer its 4G Long Term Evolution services in 11 new markets and to expand the services in seven existing markets. With the new development, 200 million people in 190 markets across the United States will now be able to enjoy the high speed 4G services of the company.
