Verizon to Help Domestic Violence Victims with Refurbished Phones

With the holiday season comes the spirit of giving and along those lines Verizon Wireless, through its exclusive HopeLine program, is helping turn no-longer used wireless phones into support for domestic violence victims.

Stated to be the nation's largest and most reliable wireless network in the country, Verizon also helps the environment by helping to dispose of such wireless phones in a way that is friendly to the environment.

HopeLine  offers a way to extend the spirit of gift giving beyond the festive season. Such programs make a difference to the lives of so many who are in need, according to company officials. Through the program, donated phones and phone accessories are refurbished and then distributed to participating domestic violence agencies and organizations nationwide.

In case the donated phones cannot be salvaged, they are recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.

Each refurbished phone donated to HopeLine from Verizon has 3,000 minutes of wireless service and can help victims of abuse feel safer and less isolated by giving them an opportunity to call emergency or support services or contact family and friends.

Through this program, over the past 10 years Verizon Wireless has collected more than eight million phones, awarded more than $10 million in cash grants and distributed more than 106,000 phones with more than 319 million minutes of free wireless service.

In other company news, Verizon FiOS Internet Service is spreading the holiday cheer as the company recently announced that this service will provide customers with the speed, high definition and selection for top-rated performance.

The FiOS network enables its new laptop tablet to download speeds of up to 150 Mbps (megabits per second).
