Oceus Networks Demos Mobile 4G LTE Tactical Cellular Communications Networks at Army's NIE 12.1

Oceus Networks, a provider of broadband solutions to the Department of Defense, intelligence community, and federal government agencies, announced it demonstrated the capabilities of Xiphos, a family of mobile 4G LTE tactical cellular communications networks.

The successful demonstration was held at the Army's recent Network Integration Exercise (NIE) 12.1.

Oceus Networks integrated its networks with existing army programs of record including WIN-T, NETT Warrior, JTRS GMR and the WNW waveform. For the demonstration, the Oceus 4G LTE Xiphos network was seamlessly integrated into its 3G QuicLINK network, advancing Oceus integration efforts from the previous NIE 11.2.

“Xiphos networks provide high capacity secure wireless broadband to the warfighter at the edge,” said Douglas C. Smith, president and CEO, Oceus Networks, in a statement. “Oceus' mobile ruggedized networks can be installed in tactical warfighter vehicles, placed aboard ships, mounted on UAV's and other aerial platforms, and can be soldier back-packed into austere environments.”

“Leveraging proven COTS products, such as Xiphos, speeds up the military's ability to use communications we take for granted in our personal lives, providing soldiers greater capabilities sooner but also at a lower cost to the taxpayer. The government is basically capitalizing on R&D investments of commercial companies,” Smith added.

The demonstration enabled the 1st Armored Division to leverage the Oceus 4G LTE commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) networks to use smart phone and tablet applications for real-time streaming media, voice over Internet Protocol, position location indicator (PLI), e-mail, and instant messaging to gain improved situational awareness capabilities.

Recently, Oceus Networks announced the addition of Randy Fuerst as chief operating officer. In his new role, Fuerst will lead the execution of the company's strategic plan and provide the operational leadership that will enable the company to grow at an accelerated rate.

Fuerst will oversee core operational elements, including delivery operations, engineering, product development, professional services, marketing and sales, and business development. Fuerst is based out of the company's corporate headquarters in Reston, Va.
