NewCore Wireless, a provider of wireless communications services, has selected
Alcatel-Lucent for deploying a 3G Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) network.
Mobile service providers serving people in rural areas will now be able to offer sophisticated next-generation services like advanced multimedia, high-speed mobile broadband, video sharing and mobile Internet access. Alcatel-Lucent will help New Core in network integration and other professional services, said the company.
“NewCore Wireless focuses on helping communications service providers in rural areas of the U.S. to overcome the technical and financial barriers to offering advanced wireless services to their customers, a market often overlooked by larger service providers,” said Jim Jech, vice president of sales and marketing for NewCore. “Alcatel-Lucent is helping us reach customers in rural markets and bring innovative wireless business opportunities to the U.S. wireless operators in these areas, starting with the northern Midwest.”
Steve Marino, vice president of strategic wireless accounts for Alcatel-Lucent’s North America region, explained that NewCore Wireless will offer a hosted 3G wireless switching platform to the ICOs (independent communications operators) and CLECs (competitive local exchange carriers) that serve the people in sparsely populated, rural areas. This helps smaller service providers to build new wireless networks cost effectively.
Alcatel-Lucent enables new service providers such as NewCore and other service providers to offer all kinds of advanced communications services in rural, unserved or underserved areas like those in urban areas.
Alcatel-Lucent will be supplying NewCore with UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) which is based on its multi-standard radio access solution like radio network controllers, node B base stations and a flexible wireless network management system. The company will also deploy IP Service Routers which allows seamless converged transport of existing 3G traffic.
NewCore will now be able to transition to LTE for addressing evolving market demands. Alcatel-Lucent will provide a comprehensive suite of professional services, according to the expansion contract, including installation, commissioning, program management, on-site training, network rollout and integration.
The multi-standard technology base station of Alcatel-Lucent is designed to support IP transformation and belongs to the converged radio access network (RAN) strategy which enables operators to move towards future mobile broadband technologies.
