Colibria: Colibria visits South Africa as part of trade delegation for Norwegian Royal visit

Nov 23, 2009 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- The Norwegian Royal Family, Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja, are to visit South Africa for the first time in ten years. As part of the visit and on behalf of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Norway there will be a trade delegation to strengthen Norway's ties with South Africa as a major trade partner. As part of the event, Colibria will be presenting on the growth opportunities for local mobile operators.

Lars Myhrum, Chief Operations Officer, Colibria said, "We are very proud to have been asked to represent the many cutting-edge technology companies based in Norway. We will be bringing our global experience and local knowledge to bear on this presentation in order to help South African operators realise their market potential in messaging and mobilisation of social networks." Colibria are one of only a handful of Norwegian companies invited to attend this important state visit to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Colibria will lead a discussion during the "ICT solutions for the future" seminar on delivering messaging services, social networks, and applications in the African market. Colibria was chosen to participate due to its strong relationships and experience with South African operators such as Vodacom and MTN South Africa.

Mobile solutions in Africa are in a critical phase with emphasis moving from subscriber acquisition to provision of value added services. These services however must be delivered across networks where data coverage is not always complete and be available across the existing diverse handset base. Mobile network operators in Africa are actively looking for mobile messaging and social networking solutions which can be delivered into this environment today.

According to research by Frost & Sullivan and Colibria[1], Africa is set for massive growth in mobile IM and social networks. They estimate that the African mobile social networking market and the mobile IM market combined will be worth $US2.3 billion by 2015.
