Radisys Launches T-100 Series Portfolio with FlowEngine Technology to Accelerate Mobile Operators' SDN and NFV Deployments for the Data Plane

HILLSBORO, Ore. --(Business Wire)--

Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today introduced an innovative family of T-100 Series (T-100) Platforms with new FlowEngine™ data plane software technology. The T-100 Platforms, based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) silicon technology, are designed and optimized to support high performance Software Defined Networking (SDN) and data plane Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) processing requirements. Integrated with Radisys' FlowEngine technology, the T-100 delivers capabilities that accelerate SDN and data plane NFV application development, improves platform efficiencies with increased density, and lowers CapEx and ongoing OpEx for mobile operators.

Mobile operators today are deploying NFV applications for control plane processing with enterprise-class cloud computing platforms. However, virtualized data plane processing across millions of broadband streams, with dynamic load balancing across hundreds of virtual machines with near-zero latency, is much more challenging. Radisys' T-100 Platforms leverage the newest virtualized COTS processor technology with the latest 100G optical interfaces, to provide up to 2+ Tbps platform throughput with telco-grade reliability. In addition, the integration of FlowEngine technology into the T-100 Platform switch streamlines the overall SDN and NFV packet processing architecture, while lowering development costs and improving time to market for virtualized application developers.

"The key for mobile operators to regain control over the explosion of mobile data growth is to understand and manage the diverse media streams flowing through their networks," said Sue Rudd, director Service Provider Analysis at Strategy Analytics (News - Alert). "Radisys' T-100 Platform with FlowEngine provides an innovative approach to optimizing traffic flows by integrating Deep Packet Inspection and load balancing into a single platform. The result is more compute capacity available for running the Virtualized Network Functions, and both reduced CapEx and OpEx, especially space and significant power savings. This unique approach is a significant step forward in implementing NFV architectural principles for high-performance, high-capacity media flow processing applications."

"We've harnessed our 25 years of teecom platform engineering expertise with the introduction of our T-100 Series Platforms with FlowEngine technology, to overcome the tough challenges around realizing SDN and NFV for the data plane," said Keate Despain (News - Alert), vice president, Business Development, Radisys. "In addition, Radisys support and integration services are available to help our customers rapidly adopt these unique NFV platform capabilities. The bottom line is that the T-100 with FlowEngine can help telecom application developers accelerate their NFV product programs with a platform architecture backed by Radisys that delivers CapEx and ongoing OpEx savings for mobile operators."

Introducing Radisys' FlowEngine™ Technology

Today, many data plane applications must first understand and classify the packet flows on the network. This often requires stand-alone Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and load balancing equipment, or engineering these functions as Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) on the processor blades, which reduces the system capacity for application processing. Radisys developed FlowEngine to deliver a pragmatic and differentiated approach to deploying an NFV architecture. FlowEngine delivers many capabilities for SDN and NFV architectures, including:

  • Delivering wirespeed flow classification within the platform switch mechanics to rapidly identify traffic, reducing DPI loads on CPU blades and increasing overall chassis capacity and performance
  • Integrated load balancing to intelligently share loads across VNFs

About Radisys' T-100 Series Product Portfolio

Radisys' T-100 Platform family consists of the T-100 Ultra, a 14 slot chassis that delivers 2+ Tbps aggregate throughput, and the T-100 Pro, a 6 slot chassis that delivers 640 Gbps aggregate throughput. The ATCA standards-based products leverage COTS silicon technology engineered for telecom reliability and performance, so customers can leverage a broad range of virtualization and development tools available for Intel (News - Alert)® x86 processors.

The T-100 Ultra and T-100 Pro can be populated with Radisys' new SDN and data plane NFV optimized blades:

  • A2470 (NPX) Intelligent Switch Blade with FlowEngine supports integrated packet classification and load balancing
  • A4700, based on the latest Intel® Xeon® E5 2600 v3 series processors, delivers optimized performance for processor-intensive virtualized applications

A Radisys T-100 Platform with A2470 switches, populated with A4700 resource blades running Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), is an ideal NFV data plane processing platform for Layer 5-7 DPI applications, Policy Control Enforcement Functions (PCRF), or Gi-LAN application processing requirements.

T-100 Series Platform products with FlowEngine technology are available now. The new T-100 Ultra significantly improves system performance delivering a price performance point of $160/Gbps (based on a 700-800Gbps configuration).
