Alvarion Ltd., a provider of WiMAX (News - Alert) and wireless broadband solutions, has announced a WiMAX pilot with French operator Bolloré telecom in Marina Port Vauban in the south of France.

According to Alvarion (News - Alert) officials, the pilot is based on the company’s end-to-end mobile WiMAX 4Motion solution operating at 3.5 GHz frequency band.

Officials said that the pilot is being conducted in cooperation with the Antibes municipalities and will showcase Alvarion’s end-to-end 4Motion solution integrated with the Service Controller (AAA) from Bridgewater Systems (News - Alert).

Bolloré telecom will pilot a variety of applications including Internet access, video streaming and VoIP services to docked boats located in the marina, as well as the surrounding beach, school and municipal buildings.

Moreover, video surveillance applications will be tested at Port Vauban using camera from Axis (News - Alert).

“This collaboration highlights our interest in the various broadband applications and rich user experience enabled by 4G,” said Dominique Roux, chairman of Bolloré telecom.

Roux said that this pilot is commissioned as part of Bolloré telecom’s planning to spread wireless broadband to a large part of the country. It demonstrates the capabilities of WiMAX technology and provides a peak into Bolloré telecom’s planned initiatives to bring cutting edge broadband communications to France, Roux said.

In June, Alvarion and Aria (News - Alert), the only telecom operator in Italy with a national WiMAX license, announced an agreement to deploy a Mobile WiMAX network throughout Italy.
Under the agreement, Aria will build a network at the 3.5 GHz frequency to offer broadband services to all 21 Italian regions using Alvarion’s 4Motion Mobile WiMAX solution incorporating the WiMAX Forum Certified BreezeMAX platform.

Alvarion’s Corporate Vice President, Dr. Mohammad Shakouri, will be presenting a keynote session at The 4G Wireless Evolution Conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 2, 2009.  Don't miss out, Register Now.
