In-Stat has reportedly revealed that semiconductor revenue for WiMAX (News - Alert) microcells, picocells, and femtocells is slated to grow at the rate of 46percent compounded annually, from 2008 to 2013. In fact, the segment is expected to gross $1 billion by 2013. The report also says that femtocells, picocells, and microcells are expected to exceed 15 million units by 2013.

Chip vendors, globally, will witness major growth in the cellular femtocell semiconductor segment, which is expected to soar at a CAGR of 260percent between 2008 and 2013. Femtocells (News - Alert) will constitute 61percent of small cellular base station revenue by 2013.

"Cellular microcell semiconductor revenue will fall as base station deployments decline and semiconductor ASPs are pressed downward," says In-Stat (News - Alert) analyst Allen Nogee. "The key for semiconductor vendors is to focus on the growth. Revenue from femtocell semiconductors, for example, will mirror revenue from the femtocells themselves as mobile operators migrate from larger base stations to smaller access points."

The In-Stat report titled "A Cell of Your Own: Worldwide Micro, Pico, and Femtocell (News - Alert) Market Analysis" reveals that gateways contribute more to the revenue than standalone femtocells. The report includes market and technology overviews and vendor profiles.

In April TMCnet had reported that another research from In-Stat titled “A Cell of Your Own: Worldwide Micro, Pico, and Femtocell Market Analysis” indicated that femtocells will soon dominate mobile markets for indoor cell coverage.
