Semiconductor solutions provider Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. has announced that its Comcerto 100 broadband gateway processor has been selected by Beceem (News - Alert) Communications. Beceem will integrate the processor from Mindspeed in its BCS5200 customer premise equipment chip for residential, small office/home office, SMB and enterprise applications.

“With our BCS5200 device, Beceem has once again demonstrated our technology leadership by enabling our customers to deliver low-cost, high-performance WiMAX (News - Alert) CPE routers with integrated VoIP and WiFi for commercial deployment in multiple mobile WiMAX networks worldwide,” Aditya Agrawal, senior director of marketing at Beceem, said.

Equipped with pioneering single-chip WiMAX with integrated voice and gateway router functionality, BCS5200 started shipping in the quarter of 2009. It brings together Beceem's high-performance WiMAX solution and Mindspeed's Comcerto 100 processor that supports a complete suite of VoIP codecs and IP network protocol stacks.

Marco Bello, director of marketing and product management for Mindspeed's CPE business, said that the company believes Beceem’s use of the system will accelerate the adoption and deployment of WiMAX customer premise home equipment.

Mindspeed's Comcerto 100 processor is an amalgamation of a VPN/WAN router platform and a low-latency voice subsystem. The Comcerto 100 provides gigabit class IP networking, high quality of service, carrier-class VoIP, low power and advanced security.

Beceem Communications (News - Alert) has been providing mobile WiMAX semiconductors with proven over-the-air data speeds exceeding 30 Mbps. Beceem's products are WiMAX certified, XOHM qualified and are validated against the WiMAX base stations from all major OEMs. Earlier this year, TMCnet reported that Hitachi (News - Alert) Metals has announced a new line of fully integrated FEMs optimized for Beceem's BCSM250 Mobile WiMAX chip.
