RDL Comunicações, Ltd., a São Paulo-based WISP, has selected and deployed
Proxim Wireless’ unlicensed WiMAX and wireless backhaul technology to enable broadband service in 10 cities throughout Brazil.
Officials with Proxim Wireless (

Alert) radios to provide wireless access, RDL has deployed an end-to-end wireless broadband network with the capacity needed to support subscribers in 10 cities at a fraction of the cost of deploying fiber or copper cables.
The cities in which RDL has currently launched service via Proxim’s equipment are: Barueri, Caieiras, Carapicuiba, Cotia, Franco da Rocha, Jandira, Itapevi, Osasco, Santana do Parnaiba and São Paulo.
“When evaluating solutions, we knew that rolling out service to these distributed cities via fiber or copper would be completely cost prohibitive,” said Ronaldo da Silva Nunes, director at RDL Comunicações, Ltd, in a statement.
Nunes said that not only does Proxim provide better price and similar to or better performance than wired networks, but Proxim also performed better than the other wireless vendors the company tested.
He said that with Proxim, the company gets a one stop shop for all the wireless needs -- from wireless backhaul to wireless access.
“At Proxim, all we do is wireless. We have a complete wireless broadband ecosystem, which gives us the ability to deploy broadband networks that perform similar to or better than wired networks, but for a fraction of the cost,” said Mauricio Meirelles, regional technical sales manager in Brazil for Proxim Wireless.
Meirelles said that as a result, the company has a great deal of experience displacing wired technologies and accelerating ROI for the customers’ broadband networks.
Proxim Wireless Corporation provides Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Point-to-Multipoint and Point-to-Point Backhaul technologies for a complete indoor and outdoor wireless broadband ecosystem.
Back in January Proxim Wireless Corporation had
announced that the state of Bolivar, Venezuela has deployed Proxim’s point-to-point wireless technology as part of a large, integrated public safety network in Bolivar City.
The network, which connects both state and local police, the National Guard, state transportation and public safety agencies, utilizes Proxim’s Tsunami QuickBridge.11 radios to create a wireless video surveillance network.
In addition to Proxim’s wireless backhaul technology, the “Emergency Bolivar 1-7-1” network also incorporates closed circuit television (CCTV), digital telephony via Voice over IP (VoIP), fleet management, call management, video conferencing, emergency call management, and fire detection and access control systems.
The end result is a fully-integrated public safety network that enables all connected organizations to monitor streaming video surveillance footage throughout Bolivar City, manage all incoming emergency calls, and automatically deploy emergency vehicles and services.
