Sigma Designs, a provider of system-on-chip solutions for entertainment and control throughout the home, demonstrated four new technologies at this year’s Cable Show at Los Angeles.

Cable operators have traditionally required an expensive cable set-top box at every TV inside the home. Sigma's breakthrough thin client architecture enables them to reduce deployment costs while delivering superior video playback quality, all over IP, the company said.

Among the products displayed, Sigma's 8652-based thin clients are able to convert consumer premises equipment or “CPE” to a cable TV gateway, offering great performance and at affordable price, company officials said.

The high-quality 3D video processing on Sigma Designs (News - Alert) set-top box solutions enhance user experiences.

Sigma's HomePlug AV solution enables cable service providers to deliver content to more rooms with higher reliability at a lower cost and improves the performance and reliability of home networks, the company claims.

Z-Wave solution from Sigma enables service providers to increase ARPU and net profits by delivering compelling new services such as home control, security, energy management and more.

The Z-Wave technology transforms stand-alone devices into intelligent network nodes that can be controlled and monitored wirelessly.

Applications of Z-Wave technology include home entertainment systems, lighting and appliance control, HVAC systems, security and access control, meter reading, and digital home health care.

Michael Weissman, vice president Corporate Marketing, Sigma Designs, said, “With solutions that touch so many parts of the content-delivery chain, from media processors for IP-based set-top boxes to the latest developments in energy management and home networking, Sigma Designs is proud to be a dominant enabler of innovation in today's cable industry.”

Sigma supplies media-processor for high-definition IPTV (News - Alert) set-top boxes. Sigma's media processors power sophisticated on-screen guides and advanced features such as DVR, VoD, fast channel change,  simultaneous multi-channel viewing, media-content streaming and sharing, company officials added.

The Sigma/CopperGate HomePlug AV CG2110 Chipset gives an easy method for the distribution of HD media content, triple-play services and IPTV over a home's electric power lines.

Earlier in March Sigma Designs announced the release of CopperGate CG3310M, the first complete Ethernet over Coax or “EoC” solution on a single chip. Read more about the product here
