Motorola, a dealer in communications, has stated that they have unveiled a new cost-effective single RAN solution that has the ability to enable WiMAX (News - Alert) evolution. Using the new solution, operators can upgrade existing WiMAX 802.16e / 802.16e enhanced networks to 802.16m or TD-LTE or to add LTE to their existing WiMAX networks.

Customized for rapidly spreading 4G networks, Motorola's (News - Alert) enhanced WiMAX offering is based on a single RAN solution that supports existing technology and provides operators with a cost-effective way to upgrade their network offerings, preserving capital and protecting investments.

Vice President of Product Management for Motorola Networks, Fred Gabbard has stated that the WiMAX operators around the world are facing a data explosion, as their average subscriber is now using 10GB to 30GB of data each month. Motorola is working closely with a number of WiMAX operators, helping them to plan capacity. Also their new solution allows operators to migrate to WiMAX 802.16m or LTE (News - Alert), thus reducing their cost per bit and to choose the best path toward 4G.

Motorola’s WiMAX Evolution -Single RAN Solution reuses most of the base station for various options and reuses 100 percent of the major network elements such as IP/MPLS core, backhaul, device management and also preserves the WiMAX operator’s capital investment. With this assurance, most WiMAX operators are increasing their WiMAX network investment in order to meet the current data demand. Motorola WiMAX access points can be easily upgraded to 802.16m, TD-LTE, FDD LTE or LTE-Advanced, meeting the needs of operators and also providing significant cost benefits to all operators.

Regardless of their position in the 4G deployment or expansion phase, Motorola's WiMAX Evolution – Single RAN solution enables operators to safely increase network capacity and also allows them to offer services with more data usage per month at a lower price compared to other existing technologies gives them a competitive advantage.

The Motorola offering includes certain benefits to operators such as: Equipment reuse that leverages tower top RF heads and antenna as well as existing ancillary cabling; Cost avoidance that requires no expensive crane lifts or tower climbs to implement; and Capital savings that preserves antenna tower or other site mount costs, site development costs, site acquisition costs, costly battery backup, concrete base, existing electrical and existing backhaul.
