An agreement to supply its VistaMAX 802.16-2004 compliant 5.8GHz wireless communications platform to the United States Air Force, has been signed by Vecima Networks Inc (News - Alert)., a premier designer and manufacturer in the broadband cable and wireless network infrastructure market.

Meant for an unclassified communications platform, this contract offers a ubiquitous network via a WiMAX/WiFi (News - Alert) hybrid deployment for up to 1,000 service personnel at Bagram Air Force Base.

Owing to this, access to the internet for personal communications with friends and relatives home and abroad is opened. The worldwide sales and distribution channels will help to market the platform with the direction to assist other bases and communities around the world seeking similar turnkey services.

On location in Bagram, Vecima also provided installation and training services to ensure a smooth maintenance transition to the base’s IT staff.

“We’re happy to be able to bring non-critical communications to the men and women of the base,” said Robert Forget, AVP of Product Management at Vecima. “We understand the importance of being able to keep in touch with loved ones and hope to bring people a little closer together.”

To meet the complex requirements of next-generation, high-speed digital networks, the hardware products of Vecima incorporate original embedded software.

Vecima’s solutions are used by service providers to deliver services to a converging worldwide broadband market, including what are commonly known as “triple play” and “quadruple play” services.

By overcoming the bottleneck resulting from insufficient carrying capacity in legacy, last mile infrastructures, Vecima’s solutions allow service providers to rapidly and cost-effectively bridge the final network segment that connects the system directly to end users, commonly referred to as “the last mile.”

The products of Vecima are directed at two principal markets: Converged Wired Solutions and Broadband Wireless.

In related news, Vecima Networks has appointed John Hanna as new CFO and its former CFO, Mike Barry (News - Alert) as president of YourLink, Vecima’s wholly owned wireless internet service Provision Company.
