HiBeam Internet & Voice, a provider of broadband services, has selected Tellabs SmartCore 9100 platform as part of its new WiMAX (News - Alert) network.

Officials with Tellabs said that the company’s SmartCore 9100 platform offers a uniform layer of services on wireless broadband networks.

Company officials said that the platform provides an interface to millions of constantly moving mobile devices with their multiple service flows to the IP world, managing security, dynamic services, seamless mobility, paging, location tracking, and dynamic charging.

"Tellabs' (News - Alert) 4G mobile packet core solution provides HiBeam with an open network architecture and intelligence critical to network optimization," said Chuck Bernstein, VP, North American sales, at Tellabs, in a statement.

Bernstein said that HiBeam's network enables its customers to enjoy WiMAX services.

Tellabs is a communications service provider supplying customers with mobile, optical, business and services solutions.

Earlier in July nTelos, an integrated communications provider selected Tellabs for optical transport and high-speed data solutions that meet long-term growth needs.

On the heels of acquiring approximately 2,200 route miles of fiber from Allegheny Energy, nTelos reviewed network build-out requirements and updated its options for network elements.

The goal was to choose the technology solutions that best serve nTelos’ customer requirements in the expanded service areas.

nTelos selected the Tellabs 7100 Optical Transport System for the expanded fiber optic network to power SONET, Ethernet and 2.5G and 10G data services, with an eye toward 40G and 100G.

The Tellabs 7100 OTS enables nTelos to increase the amount and types of traffic it can carry on the backbone with fewer network elements and reduced power consumption.
