Baidu eyes wireless Internet as investment focus
Sep 03, 2010 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
BEIJING, Sept. 3 (InfoChina) -- Baidu (BIDU.NASDAQ) is eyeing the
wireless Internet business as a new investment focus, reported
Cnstock.com, citing Baidu vice president Wang Zhan early on Friday.
The report said that the company would take advantage of its edge
in PC netizen sector -- where Baidu boasts a 90 percent market share
and expects to have 630 million Internet users by 2013 -- to seize
the chances alongside China's integration of telecoms, cable, and
Internet networks and the 3G mobile era.
On August 19 Baidu set up a wireless Internet department. Yue
Guofeng, the department manager, said previously that Baidu will work
to improve the wireless search engines and try charging mobile phone
owners to use them.
The company will integrate more appliances into its search box to
better user experiences, the report quoted Yue as saying.
Up to now, Baidu has struck up strategic partnerships with China
Telecom (0728.HK) and China Unicom (600050.SH,0762.HK).
Moreover, a number of mobile phone producers such as Nokia,
Sumsung, and Lenovo (0992.HK) have embedded Baidu search services in
the Internet systems of their products. (Edited by Duan Jing,
