Orckit Communications (News - Alert), a leading Carrier Ethernet and transport (CE+T) networking vendor, announced that leading German carrier envia TEL GmbH has chosen Orckit-Corrigent’s CE+T solution and 3M (News - Alert) Services’ solutions to enhance its Transport and Packet Network suite of solutions.

Orckit-Corrigent’s CE+T portfolio consists of CM-4000 that is based on Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and MPLS-TP technologies. With these capabilities, CM-4000 is capable of delivering any Ethernet and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) services over packet-based networks.

Further, Orckit-Corrigent’s CE+T solutions are fully compliant with industry standards and fully interoperable with 3rd party switches and routers, company officials added.

“Following a comprehensive evaluation of the various solutions available, it was clear that Orckit-Corrigent’s Carrier Ethernet and transport solution best addresses our business goals and needs,” said Jens Wengenmayr, chief technical officer of envia TEL, in a statement.

“Moreover, we have a strong history with 3M Services and we view the combination of 3M Services’ comprehensive support and Orckit’s technology as a winning formula for our company and our customers,” Wengenmayr further said.

Following the deal, Orckit-Corrigent also announced a strategic partnership with 3M Services for the distribution and first-line support for Orckit-Corrigent’s products in Germany.

3M Services, formerly known as Quante-Netzwerke, is an experienced multinational integration partner. The company specializes in designing and implementing competitive and flexible networks for private and public telecommunication carriers.

According to Izhak Tamir, co-founder, chairman of the Board and president at Orckit Communications, the partnership with envia TEL will help increase their customer base in Germany while the partnership with 3M services for network implementation will allow the company to provide envia TEL with a comprehensive, MPLS based solution that best fits their networking needs.

Recently Orckit Communication hit headlines when it received additional purchase orders and immediate deployment requests for its CM-4000 products from Alphion Corporation, for deployment in BSNL (News - Alert) through ITI.
