Juniper Networks (News - Alert), a provider of network innovation solutions, announced its MX960 3D Universal Edge Router was named the winner in the "Best Carrier Ethernet Core Product" category at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress (CEWC) Award offered as part of the recent CEWC event.

The MX960 delivers a high-performance network infrastructure with fast, secure and reliable delivery of mission-critical applications, according to company officials.

Juniper’s MX Series of routers enables enterprises and service providers to meet the increasingly stringent requirements for network quality of service, performance, availability and flexibility, according to Juniper officials. It delivers the high density Layer 2 and Layer 3 performance with the three dimensional scaling across subscribers, services and bandwidth necessary for advanced Ethernet requirements.

The MX Series delivers highest bandwidth and throughput scalability, ranging from 20 Gigabits per second in the MX5 up to an industry-leading 3.8 Terabits per second in the MX960. The MX portfolio is powered by a common chipset and a single operating system, Junos, with the open Junos SDK that allows developers to build custom network applications.

The solution can be used for campus and data center core aggregation. It also finds application as a WAN gateway with support for VPLS services for multi-point connectivity, Ethernet aggregation at the campus/enterprise edge and Virtual Leased Line for point-to-point services. It also supports MPLS VPNs throughout the network and aggregation at the multiservice edge.

"Service providers around the globe are trying to keep pace with the exploding bandwidth demands being driven by our consumer expectations and business requirements for fast and reliable access to data and video applications on mobile devices--but their infrastructure budgets remain under tight pressure,” said Michael Howard, co-founder and principal analyst at Infonetics (News - Alert) Research and one of the award judges, in a statement.

"Juniper's MX Series is one of the industry's most versatile and scalable routing platforms designed to address a range of deployments, which enable service providers to do more with their networks while keeping costs under control,” Howard added.

The awards, presented by IIR Telecoms & Technology and the Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert), are selected by an independent panel of judges from many of the leading analyst firms that cover the networking industry, including Informa Group, Infonetics, Ovum, Current Analysis and IDC (News - Alert). They are designed to recognize excellence and leadership in the development, marketing and delivery of Carrier Ethernet Services.

In other industry news, RAD Data Communications (News - Alert), a manufacturer of high quality access and backhaul equipment for data communications and telecommunications applications, announced its ETX-205A Carrier Ethernet demarcation device has won the award for Best Mobile Backhaul Product at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress.
