Wind River (News - Alert), provider of embedded and mobile software for network acceleration, has recently announced that Rockwell Collins, a global provider of communication and aviation electronics for military and commercial customers, has selected Wind River’s VxWorks MILS Platform for its SecureOne line of products.

VxWorks is the first commercial-grade RTOS to fully support 32-bit and 64-bit processing on Intel (News - Alert) Architecture. VxWorks offers a scalable and flexible RTOS solution on the market, from small-scale, small-footprint 32-bit devices to large-scale 64-bit systems that require more than 4GB RAM.

For both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and asymmetrical multiprocessing (AMP) configurations, the latest VxWorks delivers greater multi-core processing performance. The Intel optimizing C++ compiler and the Intel Performance Primitives (IPP) library for Intel architectures will now have support from VxWorks platforms. With a multi-core SMP and ARM (News - Alert) Thumb-2 instruction set, this version of VxWorks now includes support for the ARM Cortex A9 processor, the company stated in a press release.

Utilizing Wind River’s VxWorks Platform will enable Rockwell Collins SecureOne Processor (News - Alert) and SecureOne Guard to take advantage of the increased abilities the platform provides. The SecureOne technologies serve as two of five cross domain technology building blocks that are part of a family of Rockwell Collins’ high assurance technologies for military tactical systems.

According to company officials, VxWorks MILS Platform, part of Wind River’s industry-leading VxWorks real-time operating system product portfolio, enables software development of multilevel secure (MLS) systems and cross domain solution products by providing high security, high robustness and high performance on a shared computing platform.

Rockwell Collins selected VxWorks MILS Platform due to the MILS architecture which allows for the development of high robustness (EAL6+) MLS systems for use in environments requiring security and safety.

Rockwell Collins has been demonstrating its SecureOne Guard running on VxWorks MILS Platform at MILCOM 2011 this week in conjunction with Wind River at the company’s booth No. 721.
