Ariesco Acquired by JDS Uniphase

JDS Uniphase Corporation (JDSU) is a company that was formed in 1999 in a merger between two fiber optic companies. JDS Fitel of Canada and Uniphase Corporation in the U.S. are the two companies that merged and the formation became known as JDS Uniphase.

Arieso is a UK- based leading provider of intelligent, location aware solutions. It is located in Newbury, UK. The company enables mobile network operators to focus their businesses on the evolving desires and expectations of their customers. The company's solutions locate, store and analyze data from billions of mobile connection events. This gives operators a source of intelligence to help boost network performance and enrich the user experiences.

It was announced that JDS Uniphase acquired Arieso. The company’s software helps wireless operators solve bandwidth related problems for their 2G, 3G and 4G-LTE networks. This will enhance JDS Uniphase’s portfolio. The main focus of the software is radio access network (RAN) monitoring and optimization.

RAN is part of a mobile telecommunication system. It implements a radio access technology. Conceptually, it resides between devices such as a mobile phone, a computer, or any remotely controlled machine and it provides a connection with its core network. RAN functionality is typically provided by a silicon chip residing in both the core network, as well as, in the user’s equipment.

There are expectations that the RAN optimization market will grow to about $1.0 billion by the year 2015. With a solid client list that includes AT&T Inc., Telefonica S.A. and Vodafone Group plc, you can see how this acquisition is a major step for JDS Uniphase.

According to a state, emt, the acquisition cost JDS Uniphase $85 million in cash. A spokesperson said that they believe this deal will be incrementally positive for the company from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013. The company offers an innovative LTE test solution, which already encompasses end-to-end, real-time tracing, data assurance and OSS to derive the performance and revenue potential of LTE networks.

The acquisition advances JDS Uniphase’s mobility strategy. It visibility extends all the way to the subscriber location, thus providing critical intelligence that allows RAN optimization teams to maximize return on investment. This can be achieved by identifying ideal locations for small cells and other self-optimizing network enhancements with an almost surgical precision, across the widest range of technologies and vendors.

Shirin Dehghan, Ariesco’s CEO said, “We’re excited about the complementary fit between Arieso and JDSU and the opportunity to extend the customer-centric location aware approach into the service and application domains, allowing mobile network operators to take a truly holistic approach to driving customer experience improvements.”

With the acquisition of Ariesco, JDS Uniphase will be able to offer two solutions that leverage Ariesco’s proprietary algorithms. The first one is AriesoGEO multi-vendor, location aware network monitoring and optimization solution that delivers intelligence for more effective network performance engineering. The second solution will be AriesoACP automated network planning technology that searches all possible configurations to deliver optimum network designs.

The recently launched differentiated products have gained solid market traction. It seems that 54 percent of JDS Uniphase’s second quarter revenue has already come from the newly launched products.
