Duracell Powermat Brings Wireless Charging to the iPhone 5

Digital electronics, like smartphones and digital cameras, have created brand new industries that allow new, innovative companies to prosper. Unfortunately, some of the old guard has fallen under the heels of progress, as was the case with Kodak, which filed chapter 11 bankruptcy last year.

However, some companies have managed to evolve and survive in the age of the smartphone. Duracell, for example, probably doesn't bring in as much revenue as it used to from its disposable batteries, but the company has managed to tap into modern energy needs with products like the recently launched Duracell Powermat solution for the iPhone 5.

The Powermat is a portable, high-quality wireless charging device that helps keep smartphones and other electronics charged at all times. The new suite of Powermat products for the iPhone 5, meanwhile, offers backup power and wireless charging in various modular designs.

Sympathetic to the fact that many smartphone owners choose their devices partly on physical design, Duracell recruited famed designer Yves Bahar and his design firm, Fuseproject, to create "an iconic new design" for the Duracell Powermat for iPhone 5. Duracell has placed an emphasis on style in the past with its Powermat design, signing a multi-year global investment agreement with rapper Shawn "Jay Z" Carter in 2012.

This new line of Powermat products includes a protective Access Case, which enables wireless charging for the iPhone 5on any enabled surface, as well as a "SnapBattery" case. SnapBattery features a detachable battery with a capacity of 1950mAH and also enables wireless charging on any powermat.

"People avoid battery cases and back up batteries because they add some bulk and recharging them is a hassle," said Ron Rabinowitz, Duracell Powermat CEO. "With the new Duracell Powermat PowerSnap case and battery, you are free to have the extra power only when you need it, and enjoy the convenience of wireless charging at all times, with or without the battery. Just set your phone and/or battery down to recharge."

Finally, the new TravelMat features both a battery and wireless charger in one wireless solution, providing an easily accessible 4200mAH of additional power without the need for cables.
