Infonetics Research Releases Second Quarter Edition Of WiMAX Equipment, Devices And Subscribers Report

Infonetcis Research has released its second quarter edition of its “WiMAX Equipment, Devices and Subscribers” market share and forecast report. The report tracks companies like Airspan, Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Cisco, GreenPacket, Huawei, Motorola, Nokia-Siemens Networks, POSDATA Flyvo, Samsung, Vecima, WiNetworks, ZTE and ZyXEL.

According to Richard Webb, directing analyst for WiMAX, microwave and mobile devices at Infonetics Research, the second quarter has showed signs that the WiMAX market has passed the worst of the slowdown, and the outlook is cautiously optimistic for steadier growth returning to the market by the end of the year. The overall WiMAX market sequentially grew at 12 percent to USD255 million in the second quarter. This growth was mainly driven by revenue increases in all regions, most notably in the U.S. and India.

In the report, Infonetics Research forecasts that the worldwide WiMAX equipment and devices market will reach $ 4.9 billion in 2013. The market will predominantly be driven by developing countries. The report also reveals that more than one-third of the world's WiMAX equipment and device revenue comes from EMEA (mostly Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa); whereas only one-third comes from Asia Pacific.

In the second quarter of 2009, Alvarion held the lead in overall WiMAX equipment revenue share, followed by Motorola. Despite the recession, WiMAX adoption is continuing to accelerate as more WiMAX devices reach the market. These devices include embedded WiMAX laptops and netbooks that arrived in the second half of 2009. The report predicts that the number of WiMAX subscribers will reach 140 million   worldwide in 2013.

The WiMAX report provides market size, market share, forecasts and analysis for fixed WiMAX (802.16d) base stations and CPE; mobile WiMAX (802.16e) equipment and devices, including macro, micro, and pico base stations; CPE, ASN gateways and Home Agents; WiMAX phones, netbooks, and external broadband cards. The report also tracks WiMAX and WiMAX VoIP subscribers.
