City of Gastonia (NC) Deploys Avenda Systems Policy Management Solution for Department-Wide Network Security

SANTA CLARA, CA, Jan 13, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Avenda Systems, the innovator in identity-aware network security, today announced that the City of Gastonia, one of North Carolina's 15 largest cities, has deployed its eTIPS solution to satisfy requirements for user-based network accountability and compliance, across multiple agencies and departments.

"We wanted to consolidate our city and county identity management efforts for network access to one centrally managed domain," said Robert Loveland, network engineer at the City of Gastonia. "The Avenda solution allows us to easily create granular access rules based on a user's role. This is critical in a government organization where jobs and network access requirements differ greatly across departments." The City of Gastonia can now centrally manage and differentiate network access for a number of city and county (Gaston County Public Safety) organizations, including two police departments, a sheriff's office, a 911 Center, ambulance service, and all city administration.

Based on unique features within Avenda's eTIPS platform, attributes of multiple Active Directory resources are used in a policy so that users and their endpoint devices are authenticated and authorized before gaining 802.1X access to the wireless and VPN networks. For example, the system is flexible enough to create a common wireless policy that enforces differentiated access privileges depending on whether the user is a police officer with a laptop in a patrol car or a fireman.

"We are seeing a growing demand for an identity platform that works with existing infrastructure regardless of vendor," commented Ron DiBiase, VP of Sales at Avenda Systems. "In Gastonia's case, our solution supports a wide variety of network devices, computer operating systems, and use cases associated with today's high-tech government workforce." Serving as Gastonia's primary policy server, the eTIPS platform integrates with Gastonia's Trapeze wireless LAN and Cisco's VPN devices, as well as with their RSA SecureID authentication system.

About Gastonia Gastonia is located in the heart of the Piedmont section of the State of North Carolina and is the county seat of Gaston County. An All American City, it is the second largest city in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill Metropolitan Area.

About Avenda Systems Avenda Systems introduced the industry's first multi-function platform for network access security that breaks through past deployment barriers -- complexity, compatibility, compliance and cost. Avenda's flagship eTIPS solution is a scalable AAA platform that utilizes identity-based policies for access control, endpoint health and device authorization for wired, wireless and VPN networks in multi-vendor environments.
