Acorn Technologies, an Intellectual Property or “IP” development and commercialization company, announced the integration of its chip-level IP core solution for 4G networks with two commercial platforms.
The company achieved standards-compliant integration of HellaPHY into Texas Instruments' (News - Alert) LTE development platform as well as full integration with Runcom's WiMAX commercial hardware.
Introduced recently HellaPHY is a chip-level IP core solution for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or “OFDM”-based 4G wireless networks.
The integration demonstrated a more than 60 percent gain in spectral efficiency for both LTE- and WiMAX (News - Alert)-based networks. This, according to company officials, would yield increased capacity and bandwidth efficiency.
As a result, mobile operators can deliver higher data rates and wider coverage to end-users. With these features, HellaPHY improves the business case for operators deploying LTE (News - Alert) or WiMAX, company officials said.
Significant spectral efficiency gains were observed when HellaPHY was implemented over the baseline approach, company officials said.
"In selecting a partner to enhance our OFDM and WiMAX solutions, we look for technologies that deliver on the promise of 4G--higher data speeds and advanced mobile applications," said Eran Bello, vice president of marketing and sales for Runcom (News - Alert), in a statement.
HellaPHY helps in increasing overall receiver performance, offering capacity improvements under the most challenging mobile channel impairments, including co-channel interference, inter-carrier interference, multi-path interference and thermal noise.
Service providers save on network total cost of ownership or “TCO” because it allows them to deploy fewer base stations and maintain quality.
Acorn Technologies collaborated with AirHop (News - Alert) Communications, its LTE partner, on its HellaPHY solution for LTE.
According to Hanson On, vice president of engineering at AirHop Communications, the new platform provides an excellent foundation for LTE base stations that incorporate advanced RAN-management products like AirHop's eSON.
Steve Caliguri, vice president of Telcom at Acorn Technologies, said, “Working closely with industry leading partners like AirHop and Runcom helps to confirm Acorn's unique signal processing approach that allows for a greatly simplified implementation that provides significant spectral efficiency gains.”
