Salvation Army, C Spire partner to make it easier for consumers to support the organization's Red Kettle holiday giving campaign

--(Business Wire)--

C Spire:

WHAT:

The Salvation Army and C Spire invite the news media to attend a demonstration on Wednesday, Nov. 26 of a new pilot technology initiative that promises to boost donations to the non-profit's Red Kettle holiday giving campaign in the greater Jackson metropolitan area. Consumers now have the option to make credit card donations at 20 of the organization's 65 highest traffic Red Kettle locations in the tri-county region - thanks to the availability of smartphones and tablets connected to C Spire's mobile broadband network and equipped with secure e-readers and swipe technology.

The Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign is a hallmark of the holidays and the largest annual fundraiser with proceeds used to support a variety of year-round programs and services for the poor and needy. For the next few weeks, over 10,000 volunteers will sing and ring bells for hours at a time in front of local malls, stores and businesses - a reminder that the season is as much about giving as about receiving. With fewer days this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the non-profit charity hopes making it easier and more convenient for shoppers to make donations will help it reach its $475,000 fundraising goal.
