Wind River Unveils the Latest Version of Wind River Network Acceleration Platform

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Wind River (News - Alert), a provider of embedded and mobile software, announced the latest version of its Wind River Network Acceleration Platform, designed to deliver ultrafast networking performance for network infrastructure equipment.

The multi-core acceleration enables greater performance with the addition of packet acceleration for higher-level protocols including Layer 4 transport protocols such as UDP (News - Alert) and TCP, company officials said.

The new release expands hardware support for Freescale (News - Alert) QorIQ and Intel Xeon next-generation multi-core processors. The multi-core silicon support allows network performance to scale efficiently with the number of cores in a processor.

“Network equipment providers are racing to tackle the growing challenges of delivering high-performance network products that scale to meet the exploding traffic on 3G, 4G and wireline networks,” said Mike Langlois, general manager of networking and telecommunications at Wind River, in a statement.

With the new Wind River Network Acceleration Platform project teams can spend their time developing high value, intelligent networking applications. It also eases migration to cutting-edge silicon, Langlois said.

By adopting the multi-core asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP) approach, Wind River Network Acceleration Platform enhances the standard Linux networking stack to support high-performance network acceleration capabilities far exceeding what is possible using symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) mode alone, the company said.

Offering 10 times the performance of standard Linux configurations, Wind River Network Acceleration Platform helps eliminate bottlenecks not only in moving packets through the silicon itself, but throughout the entire networking platform.

Wind River Network Acceleration Platform integrates complex components of multi-core software. It delivers a complete commercial software package with world-class support and services as well as a path to scale to future networking hardware platforms.

The platform also provides the necessary elements and expertise, in operating system, virtualization and networking technologies, to make high-performance systems work in a unified and smooth fashion.

Wind River recently announced it has achieved “Ready for IBM (News - Alert) Rational Software” technical validation for Wind River Test Management, a test automation system for monitoring, executing and managing embedded device software testing.

This validation provides IBM Rational customers with assurance that Wind River Test Management has met IBM Rational's requirements for safety, interoperability, and user experience, and integrates seamlessly with IBM Rational Quality Manager, company officials said.
