Insurance Information Network of Calif. Offers Quake Swarm Analysis

Aug 30, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- The Insurance Information Network of California announced that most Californians would not be insured against damage such as that caused by Sunday's earthquake swarm in the Brawley Seismic Zone.

Only 12 percent of homeowners statewide purchase earthquake insurance, and damage from quakes is typically not covered under a standard homeowner's insurance policy, according to the Insurance Information Network of California.

The quake swarm Sunday resulted in more than 300 temblors, peaking with a 5.5-magnitude quake. The tremors broke glass, knocked groceries from store shelves and forced 20 mobile homes off their foundations.

IINC representatives are available to discuss earthquake insurance protection in California, as well as what homeowners and businesses can do to prepare for the next big quake.

The Insurance Information Network of California is a non-profit and non-lobbying trade association dedicated to helping the public understand insurance and manage risk.
