HiBeam Announces First "Substantial Service" Installation at Southern Union State Community College

OPELIKA, Ala. --(Business Wire)--

HiBeam Internet & Voice (www.MyHiBeam.com) announced today that it has completed its first installation of the company's substantial service product at Southern Union State Community College (www.suscc.edu).

Under current FCC (News - Alert) rules, owners of spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band have until May of 2011 to demonstrate that they are using their spectrum for the educational mission of their institution.

HiBeam Internet & Voice has developed a product using the latest WiMAX (News - Alert) electronics to help schools and institutions quickly and cost effectively meet the FCC requirements.

"Now that HiBeam has successfully deployed this first installation at SUSCC, we are working closely with SUSCC administrators to complete the appropriate filings with the FCC," said Keith Coker, Chief Technology Officer for HiBeam. "It's important to us that we work with the school to demonstrate educational use and substantial service."

Upon approval from the FCC on this installation at SUSCC, HiBeam is prepared to launch this product in support of other EBS spectrum holders throughout the United States.

"HiBeam is currently working with several EBS licensees on similar 'spectrum saving' installations," added Coker. "We firmly believe this product provides a valuabl service to EBS licensees."

SUSCC was installed in conjunction with Auburn Broadband (www.auburnbroadband.com) and Bridge the Divide Foundation (www.bridgethedividefoundation.com). Students and staff on the Opelika campus of SUSCC will enjoy wireless WiMAX 802.16e technology, the first deployment of WiMAX to a college or university in Alabama.
