4 Taiwan-based Wireless TV Operators Apply for HD Channel

TAIWAN, Jul 04, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- According to Taiwan media reports on July 3, four Taiwan-based wireless TV operators have filed applications for HD (high definition) bandwidth to the National Communications Commission (NCC).

These four operators include Taiwan Television Enterprise, Ltd, China Television Company, Ltd, Chinese Television System Inc. and Formosa Television Inc. If the applications are successfully approved, there will be four new HD channels in Taiwan.

The NCC stated that it has received the applications filed by the four operators and will soon review the applications. However, since the applications have not been approved, these operators' detailed operating plan for HD channel could not be disclosed at present.

Currently, the HD TV service in Taiwan is offered by the MOD (Multimedia on Demand) platform of Taiwan Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd (NYSE: CHT) and a few channels under cable TV system operators.
