Officials of Infonetics (News - Alert) Research recently released excerpts from the firm’s latest Carrier Ethernet Equipment market size, market share, and forecast report.
Michael Howard (News - Alert), principal analyst for carrier networks and co-founder of Infonetics Research, summed up their finding by saying “the carrier Ethernet equipment market continues to grow strongly, so much so that we've increased our long-term forecast from $37.5 billion to $40.2 billion by 2015.”
Mobile backhaul continues to be a particular growth area for carrier Ethernet, with IP/Ethernet equipment expected to make up 95 percent of all mobile backhaul spending by 2015.
He went on to explain that some market segments are growing faster, while others are slowing faster than they anticipated. “The largest downward changes are in the Ethernet microwave and VDSL equipment segments,” Howard said, adding that the largest upward change is in the hot carrier Ethernet switch segment.
Infonetics officials expect the global carrier Ethernet equipment market to finish 2011 up 15.7 percent to $32.0 billion, following a 30.5 percent hike in 2010. And according to the research, Infonetics officials find that service provider investment in carrier Ethernet equipment “continues to outpace overall telecom capex,” which Infonetics expects to be up 6 percent in 2011.
Among other findings, the report notes that the carrier move to packet “depends heavily on IP, MPLS, and Ethernet, as operators gradually employ the use of Ethernet transport instead of SONET/SDH.”
This past May TMC had the news that the global carrier Ethernet equipment market surpassed telecom capex, with the size of the carrier Ethernet equipment market will touch $37.5 billion in 2015, according to Infonetics Research (News - Alert).
“The growth in global carrier Ethernet equipment market is fueled by the growth in service provider investments in carrier Ethernet equipment. It will continue to outpace that of other telecom equipment, with annual spending expected to reach $37.5 billion in 2015,” TMC (News - Alert) noted at the time.
