Trilithic Offers Return and Forward Filter Testing Capability for CATV System

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

If you’re looking for a way to improve the accuracy of your measurements of composite triple beat, cross modulation and other spurious signals in a working CATV system, well, you may want to check out the VF-5 Portable Pre-Selector from Trilithic.

As company officials say, the VF-5 tunable preselector filter can be used to help improve your testing accuracy on both forward and return paths, and improve the accuracy of your measurement of composite triple beat, cross modulation and other spurious signals in a working CATV system.

It offers such functionality as forward and return path pre-selection, being tunable from 55 to 880 MHz, T7-T12 Channel Filters, what company officials call a “High-Selectivity Shape Factor,” optional 20 dB preamplifier – oh, and it’s field portable.

The VF-5 is being billed by company officials as the only preselector that offers filters for testing on both the return and forward paths, and combining six precision fixed filters for return path preselection, as well as four tunable filters for 55-880 MHz range testing, “offering the versatility technicians need for the most demanding CATV applications.”

The VF-5 filter does block illegitimate signals which spectrum analyzers and signal level meters can generate because of input overload. It then passes only the carrier to be analyzed to the instrument’s input. Company officials say this can improve an instrument’s reliable measurement range by as much as 30 dB.

Late last year TMC’s (News - Alert) Shamila Janakiraman wrote that Trilithic and Statmon Technologies, a broadcast infrastructure technology management and products provider, will partner to integrate Trilithic’s EASyCAST Emergency Alert System or EAS with Statmon’s Axess management.

The integration of these two will result in an intuitive management environment to enable the monitoring and automation of all aspects of the EAS, company officials said, adding that the integrated GUI and decision-making capability guides users through every step of the process.

The enhanced solution ensures ease of use, operational efficiency and flexibility of EAS management from local, regional or national perspectives, said Trilithic sources.
