Communication Test Equipment: Trilithic Offers Next Gen Emergency Alert Compliance Help

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Communication test equipment provider, Trilithic provides a next gen Emergency Alert System product giving cable, IPTV (News - Alert) and broadcast systems “everything they need to comply with the new Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) guidelines and deliver emergency alerts from the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).”

The new EASyCAP Encoder/Decoder Emergency Management System from Trilithic, company officials say, is capable of receiving “all of the required EAS alert messages, including local access messages for franchise agreements, and control all of the network devices necessary to deliver the messages to system subscribers.”

It uses an open architecture and common interfaces, such as secure Web servers and SNMP. The platform is expandable in case CAP standards and FEMA requirements change, which of course they will.

The CAP compliance includes EASyCAP software, which, as Trilithic officials say, allows system operators who already have EASy series systems to “add next-generation alert capabilities and become CAP-compliant at a minimal cost.”

Last month TMC’s (News - Alert) Susan J. Campbell wrote that listening to customers is concept that not all providers understand, but it is one that Trilithic has perfected. The company even got its start on this premise, providing communication test equipment solutions for those performing in the broadcast, cable and RF/Microwave markets throughout the world.

This technology innovation is a result of the company’s ability to listen to and anticipate the needs of the customer base. Such an approach was critical in the development of Trilithic’s Standard and Customer Cavity Filters.

Trilithic offers the CH series of filters that are designed to cover a frequency range from 30 MHz to 400 MHz. The percentage of 3 dB bandwidth easily ranges from 0.2 percent to 3 percent. The CH series relies on a helical coil design to deliver a lower frequency operation.

The FCC’s (News - Alert) deadline for system operators to comply with the new CAP guidelines, originally Sept. 29, 2011, has been moved to June 30, 2012, giving the operators additional time to put a CAP-compliant solution in place.
