Trilithic Features Portable Analyzer for Signal and Transmission Quality

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

If you’re looking for a “high-performance portable analyzer for the digital age,” well, Tritlithic probably has just what you need.

The 860 DSPi is a cable analyzer and CATV meter for transmission and signal quality testing for analog and digital HSD and VoIP services. It’s billed by company officials as a single instrument for transmission and signal quality tests

It’s a handheld field analyzer with an optional embedded CableLabs (News - Alert) certified DOCSIS 3.0 modem that allows you to test DOCSIS, cable modem performance and VoIP quality analysis to DOCSIS 3.0 levels, and comes with DSP technology for measurements and high tech productivity, as well as a large, easy-to-read display and simple user interface for shorter learning curve and Internet browser and server functions which integrate with OSS and Workforce Management, as well as other features:

Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi option builds in a Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) adapter, enabling a full complement of Wi-Fi network verification tests.

TraffiControl. Enables troubleshooting ingress and impulse noise within an active upstream channel band.

QAM Source (News - Alert) Mode. A means for verifying the upstream transmission capability of a particular segment of the network for higher order QAM signals, up to 64 QAM. Company officials explain that this is important because many cable systems have stepped from QPSK to 16 QAM and now are moving to 64 QAM for upstream data transmission.

High-Speed Throughput. This option allows the technician to test upstream/downstream data path throughput to the full range of the bonded channels, a useful function for verifying provisioning as well as bandwidth availability at customer homes or at key test points in the system.

VoIP Quality Analysis. This is a one-button test sequence for Lost/Discarded Packets, Latency, Jitter, which automatically calculates MOS.

VITS. With the VITS option, head end technicians can view Vertical Interval Test Signals (VITS), which are inserted during the vertical synchronization interval of analog video, and specify lines for testing.
