Aurora Bolsters Sales Team in Face of Broadband Stimulus Demand

By Michael Dinan, TMCnet Editor

On the heels of an announcement that its technology can be used by cable operators receiving grants and loans under the federal broadband stimulus program, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based optical transport solution provider for cable MSOs said today that it’s expanding its sales team.

Officials at Aurora Networks Inc. said earlier this week that their so-called “Traditional HFC, Fiber Deep and RFoG” products have earned the designation of “product acceptance” from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service and Rural Development Telecommunications Program.

Now, the company says it’s expanding its sales team to address broadband stimulus demand for its “future-proof cable solutions.”

Specifically, Buford Keene has been named southeast regional account manager.

According to David Lang, Aurora Networks’ vice president of sales for the U.S. regional market, with the broadband stimulus package generating greater interest in Aurora Networks’ Fiber Deep, Segmentation, RF over Glass, RFPON and Commercial Services solutions, Keene’s cable broadband and industry expertise makes him an excellent addition to the company’s team.

“Combining our experience in providing cost-effective, next-generation solutions for operators in rural or underserved areas underscores Aurora Networks’ commitment to expanding the level of service we can offer,” Lang said.

Keene is described as an expert with more than 27 years of experience in cable networks, design and Ethernet-based architectures. Specifically, he will work with mid-sized cable operators, and is expected to play an integral part of the effort by Aurora Networks, the only optical transport solution provider focused on delivering a cost-effective, optimized platform for next-generation cable services, to address stimulus-related interest in its solutions.

Specifically, the Aurora products include:

·         Traditional HFC Solution — With its advanced line of optical transport products, Aurora Networks is the ideal partner for cable operators and their HFC deployments. Aurora Networks has the leading-edge technology to enable operators to cost-effectively meet their network and bandwidth needs.

·         Aurora Networks’ “Green” Fiber Deep Solution — By driving fiber deep into the network, cable companies can meet their bandwidth needs while reducing the number of actives and power supplies within their operations. Fiber Deep enables cable operators to go green by achieving significant reductions in cost and energy consumption, while at the same time delivering new services and high bandwidth capabilities to subscribers.

·         RFoG — Aurora Networks’ RFoG solutions enable cable operators to take advantage of FTTP architectures, incorporating unique components to overcome the deployment limitations associated with more traditional approaches.

Before joining Aurora Networks, Keene reportedly served as regional manager for ARRIS International and most recently the southeast regional sales manager for Radiant Communications (News - Alert), where he utilized his industry knowledge, expertise and technical aptitude to drive sales success and brand awareness in the cable industry, resulting in significant revenue gain. In addition to award wins for sales success, Keene is an active member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers.

“Aurora Networks always has been regarded as an industry leader and, with its focus on cost-effective solutions to evolve the cable market to achieve greater capabilities and reach more subscribers, I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of the company,” Keene said.
