ZyXEL Communications (News - Alert), a provider of broadband networking, Internet connectivity and routing products, announced the launch of a free upgrade to its mobile wireless router, MWR211, offering extra 4G connectivity support.

Leveraging the carrier-agnostic router, users can connect to Clearwire (News - Alert) WiMAX networks, in addition to 3G service providers and 4G Sprint and Verizon networks. The upgrade is designed to offer a seamless way for users to connect Wi-Fi capable devices to the Internet.

“We're seeing growing consumer demand for 4G-capabile routers and have quickly engineered a series of upgrades for our popular MWR211 routers to ensure optimal wireless user experience,” said Steven Joe (News - Alert), executive vice president of channel business for North America at ZyXEL, in a statement. “These free upgrades continuously improve our MWR211, matching its functionality to the changing needs of our existing and future customers.”

By offering the upgraded MWR211, ZyXEL Communications is trying to offer more connectivity choices to customers without additional cost. ZyXEL's mobile wireless router supports wired Internet access and 3G / 4G data access through the use of a USB adapter.

The MWR211 can operate using AC power or its rechargeable battery for business travelers and other on-the-go users. The company will target road warriors, vacationers, RVs or kiosk applications. MWR211 can work with any cellular provider's data service.

ZyXEL Communications is offering the MWR211 from ZyXEL authorized e-commerce retailers. Existing MWR211 customers can download the free firmware update and see a list of compatible 4G/3G USB adapters.

Recently, ZyXEL announced the availability of a few more IPv6 compliant networking products, as extensions to expand ZyXEL's IPv6 product portfolio. The new VDSL2 offerings revalidate ZyXEL's pioneering position as the leading proponent of the growing predominance of IPv6 deployment.
