AT4 wireless, a Designated Certification Laboratory by the WiMAX Forum, has announced that the Huawei WiMAX (News - Alert) DBS3900 has obtained the 3.5 GHz WiMAX Forum Certified seal of approval.

AT4 wireless is a wireless certification and testing laboratory. Huawei (News - Alert) DBS3900 WiMAX was tested at the AT4 wireless facilities. Company officials said that the testing included radio, protocol and interoperability against different vendors.

As specified under the WiMAX Forum (News - Alert) Certification Program rules, the Huawei DBS3900 WiMAX has successfully completed all the steps required to get the approval of the WiMAX Forum.

Huawei DBS3900 WiMAX operates at 3.4-3.6 GHz band—5, 7 and 10 MHz bandwidth. The successful completion of the steps now enables it to meet different operators’ requirements of bandwidth utilization, said officials.

“After being awarded 2.5 GHz Wave2 certification last year, Huawei’s WIMAX DBS3900 gains the 3.5 GHz Wave2 approval from WiMAX Forum,” said Zhao Ming, president of the CDMA and WiMAX product line at Huawei, in a release.

He said that the achievement on the Wave2 certification underlines that DBS3900 is a type of proprietary WiMAX base station based on the IEEE802.16e protocol and features low power consumption, extended coverage, easy installation and operation, flexible networking and more.

“Huawei appreciates AT4 wireless’ professional and sincere support on the WiMAX industry healthy development by its cutting-edge test and measurement equipment for telecommunication technologies,” said Ming.

Jose de la Plaza, telecommunications laboratory manager at AT4 wireless, added that based on the continuous investment and leading R&D strength, Huawei once again has demonstrated its WiMAX equipment’s maturity and interoperability.

The WiMAX Forum is a not-for-profit organization that has been established to certify and promote the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon the harmonized IEEE 802.16e/ETSI (News - Alert) HiperMAN standard.

Huawei Technologies is a provider of next generation telecommunications networks. Last month, company announced deployment of a 3G wireless network in Chicago, Ill. for Cricket Communications (News - Alert), a subsidiary of Leap Wireless International.
