U.K.'s picoChip Wins 4G Contract in India

Last week at the at the U.K.-India Government Summit in New Delhi, Vince Cable, the UK Business Secretary announced that Rancore Technologies Ltd. based in Navi Mumbai has selected Bath, U.K. based picoChip’s (News - Alert) wireless baseband technologies for the development of 4G base stations for India’s next-generation mobile broadband networks.

In this multi-million pound deal, Rancore Technologies will use picoChip’s picoArray PC203 multi-core digital signal processor and physical layer software for 4G applications such as carrier-class wireless infrastructure for WiMAX (News - Alert) and LTE.

4G is being deployed to deliver the quality of service and data speed requirements demanded by new wireless broadband applications and services. It is expected to bring broadband to the vast number of people in rural areas across India who are not currently served by fixed-line broadband connections.

In a statement, picoChip’s CEO Nigel Toon said, “It is a privilege to be a part of this market leading and highly significant project.” “4G development is proceeding at an advanced pace in India, one of the world’s most dynamic mobile markets. A number of technological breakthroughs and launches are on the horizon and Rancore is very much at the heart of these exciting developments,” noted Toon.

In the same release, Rancore Technologies’ PK Bhatnagar, managing director, commented “The partnership with picoChip brings us significant value in the design and development of 4G base stations.” He further added, “The processing power and capabilities of the picoArray, combined with picoChip’s expertise and support, have allowed us to meet an accelerated development timeline.”

Likewise, at the U.K.-India summit, U.K.’s business secretary Cable emphasized the fact that "Doing business in India is not just for the multinationals. I'm very pleased that a firm like picoChip has won this significant contract that will help improve communications in India, one of the fastest-growing markets for telecommunications in the world.”

That week picoChip also inked a sales and distribution agreement with Bangalore based Entuple Technologies Ltd to represent the company’s femto cells and associated processors throughout India. Under the agreement, Entuple will provide sales, engineering and systems integration support, covering HSPA+ femtocells, rural femtocells and LTE (News - Alert) technology.

Rancore Technologies is a R&D organization specializing in many innovative and upcoming 4G technologies based on new and popular protocols and services for the technology domain. Other specialties include IMS, SDP and a range of 4G applications.
